The Tesla Cybertruck, an electric vehicle with a blend of futuristic design and cutting-edge technology. One aspect that stands out is the tires Tesla opted to go with. Standard Tire Size on the Tesla Cybertruck The Tesla Cybertruck comes equipped with 35-inch all-terrain tires as standard. These particular tires are actually the metric measurement, 285/65-20’s, but the overall diameter does come in at 35″. This size is indicative of Tesla’s commitment to ensuring the Cybertruck is not only capable on paved roads but also highly competent in off-road conditions. The choice of 35-inch tires is aligned with the vehicle’s rugged and robust design, promising superior traction and performance in various terrains. Cybertruck All-Terrains vs. All Season Tires The Cybertruck initially had one tire option, the 35″ all-terrain Goodyears, however, after about 6 months of production Tesla is now offering an all-season tire option. The all-season tires do not have the same aggressive tread design, but if you’re not planning to go off-road, they’ll likely be a more practical option. All-terrain tires and all-season tires are designed for different driving conditions and have distinct characteristics. All-terrain tires are built to perform well on a variety of surfaces, including off-road terrains like mud, sand, and gravel. They feature aggressive tread patterns that provide enhanced traction and durability in rough conditions, making them ideal for vehicles frequently driven off-road. In contrast, all-season tires are designed for optimal performance on paved roads in a range of weather conditions, including dry, wet, and light snowy environments. They have a less aggressive tread pattern, which results in a smoother and quieter ride on highways and city streets. Due to their design, all-season tires typically offer better fuel efficiency and range for electric vehicles, as they have lower rolling resistance compared to the more rugged all-terrain tires. This makes all-season tires a more economical choice for everyday driving, especially for those looking to maximize their Cybertruck’s range. Tesla has yet to confirm improved range specs using the all-seasons, however it is expected to make an improvement. Why 35-Inch Tires? Conclusion The Tesla Cybertruck’s 35-inch tires are a testament to its design philosophy—combining rugged capability with advanced technology. Whether you’re an off-road enthusiast, a tech aficionado, or someone who appreciates innovative design, understanding the tire size and its implications can enhance your appreciation of this groundbreaking vehicle. As with any vehicle, it’s important to consider how modifications might impact overall performance and to choose tire options that best suit your driving needs and preferences. The Cybertruck continues to push the boundaries of what we expect from modern vehicles, and its tire size is just one of the many features that contribute to its remarkable capabilities.

TesCooler – A Freezer/Fridge for Your Tesla – Install and Review

Tescooler T-36 subtrunk electric cooler (fridge/freezer)

Back in 2023 a friend of mine shared with me a crowdfunding project for a Tesla freezer/fridge electric cooler from TesCooler. I went ahead and ordered it, knowing the version for the Model X would be the last to get manufactured. It was originally estimated to be delivered in December of 2023, but there were delays. I finally received our TesCooler from AcoPower in mid-April 2024. TesCooler for the Tesla Model X Meet the TesFridge – your ultimate road trip companion for making memories and keeping things cool, no matter where the journey takes you. Picture this: seamlessly fitting into your Tesla’s sub-trunk, it’s all about maximizing space while packing in up to 40 liters of goodness. But here’s the kicker: thanks to its top-notch cooling compressor, this bad boy can transform a lukewarm 50°F (10°C) to a chilly -4°F (-20°C) in just half an hour. It’s currently available for the Tesla Model 3, Model Y, and Model X – No Tesla Model S option as of this post. TesCooler Specs Here’s the specs directly from the manufacturer: Optional Battery Power I did not opt for it, but there is a portable battery you could also take if you plan to use your cooler away from your vehicle. The optional battery provides up to 10 hours of power, it’s like having your own personal fridge on the go. Ready to chill out and explore like never before? Packaging The packaging of the Tescooler was pretty solid, the only concern is the outer box did not have the same message about keeping it upright. Sure enough, FedEx delivered it with it up on it’s side. Unboxing the TesCooler T-36 (For Tesla Model X) Here’s the TesCooler for our Tesla Model X unboxes, there’s some protective plastic over the power controls and some quick reference instructions on the lid. Everything Included with the Tesla Electric Cooler Open the lid and you’ll find everything that comes with the cooler. There’s separate bags for the following: Installing the Tesla Electric Cooler As mentioned above, you’ll want to install the foam spacers first. These provide a tighter fit for the cooler and will install in the sub trunk on the wall closest to the rear of the vehicle. They simply attach with velcro. Connecting the 12v Power Cord Before simply placing your cooler into the rear sub-trunk of your Tesla, connect the power cord. Some years of the Tesla Model X might have the 12v power supply in another location, but our 2020 has it located here on the left. Installation Complete That’s all it takes to install the TesCooler from ACOPower in your Tesla Model X. Once you’ve plugged in the cooler, you can short-press the power button to get it powered up. TesCooler Review I just installed our TesCooler, made sure everything powered up, but will have to take some time to actually use it. The cooler could have been made a bit wider to fit the full width of the sub-trunk, but this could allow for some small items to still be stored in the sub-trunk. I’ll check to see if the mobile connector bag fits, but expect more to come as we get a chance to actually use this cooler.

Unveiling the Future: The Production Tesla Cybertruck

In a world where innovation is king, Tesla has been at the forefront of revolutionizing the automotive industry. With a vision that stretches far beyond the conventional, Tesla’s latest unveiling took the automotive world by storm – the Cybertruck. The futuristic, angular beast of a vehicle promised to defy norms and redefine what it means to drive an electric car. After some delays and just over 4 years after the initial unveiling, Tesla’s Cybertruck Delivery Event was finally scheduled for November 30th, 2023. Over the last several weeks leading up the delivery event, more and more “Release Candidate” Cybertruck’s had been spotted on the streets and highways, even off-roading trails. On various social media platforms, news began to circulate that Cybertruck’s were on their way to showrooms. On November 23rd, I saw a post on X that the Cybertruck was expected to be on display at their Bellevue Square Mall showroom in Bellevue, WA the following day which happened to be Black Friday. We headed down to see if it was in fact on display, and we weren’t disappointed! What Do People Think of the Tesla Cybertruck? People seem to remain divided on two opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to the Cybertruck. People either love it’s bold design or absolutely hate it. There seems to be no middle ground. What Are People Saying About the Cybertruck? Being a Black Friday at a shopping mall, there were already large numbers of people shopping, but also checking out the Tesla Showroom, and with a large crowd constantly around the Cybertruck. I heard several comments from people such as: It looks like a tank! That’s absolutely insane looking! All in all the comments I heard from people seeing it for the first time were overwhelmingly positive. I do have some friends who haven’t seen it in person who feel quite differently. One who is an engineer said: Sorry, worst truck design ever. Cybertruck: Building the World’s Toughest Truck With the Cybertruck, Tesla set out to break the norm. They certainly did just that. One of their goals was to build the toughest truck available. The cold rolled 30x stainless steel body panels certainly help to achieve just that. I snapped this sign Tesla had at the showroom in front of the Cybertruck. Production Cybertruck Versus Previous Prototypes The production Cybertruck has certainly gone through some changes. Most notably it appears there will no longer be a sail pillar storage area. This was a feature that was not officially mentioned during the unveil, but there was a slide during the presentation showcasing it. Mirrors were also added later in various prototype builds. I was not looking forward to this at all, I thought the original looked much cleaner. They have however made changes and the production mirrors (in my opinion) don’t look as bad as some of the earlier prototypes. While the tonneau cover was closed at the showroom, recent photos and videos of the release candidate Cybertruck’s reveal the truck bed will likely be lined and no longer off the t-bolt mount rails along the floor. More Photos of the Cybertruck Here’s a couple more pictures I took of the Cybertruck. Here’s a closeup of the wheel and tire. This is a shot of the rear marker light and an interesting angle at the bottom of the bed sides. I assume the near 45 degree cut was to eliminate the sharpness of the corner edge. Conclusion The Cybertruck was barricaded off while we were at the showroom, so we weren’t able to get beyond the barrier or look inside the vehicle. One person tried touching the stainless steel body and was told by a Tesla employee not too. It remains to be see how the stainless steel holds up against finger prints and overall weathering. The Cybertruck is certainly different and I do find the stainless steel panel durability to be quite appealing. It won’t be too much longer before the official delivery event when we should learn more specifics including range, options, and pricing. It’s already rumored the price will be much higher than what was announced in 2019. Expect more articles on the Cybertruck to come soon.

Tesla Auto Pilot Recall

tesla full self driving down a urban city highway through the heart of downtown

Tesla Autopilot is one of the most advanced driver assistance systems on the market, offering features such as automatic lane changing, self-parking, and even autonomous driving in some circumstances. However, recently, there has been a Tesla Autopilot recall, which is limiting where it can be used. Note: Since this article was first published, another Tesla software update has been pushed through that seems to have restored the Tesla Autopilot of Full-Self Driving back to it’s previous functionality. Tesla Auto Pilot Safety Concerns The recall was announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), citing concerns about the safety of the system’s forward-facing camera. According to the NHTSA, there is a risk that the camera’s image processing software could malfunction, causing the Autopilot system to misinterpret its surroundings and potentially lead to a crash. As a result of the recall, Tesla has disabled Autopilot’s automatic lane changing feature on all Model S and Model X vehicles built between September 2014 and September 2021. This means that drivers will no longer be able to rely on the system to automatically change lanes for them when they activate the turn signal. The recall is a significant blow to Tesla’s Autopilot system, which has been marketed as one of the company’s key selling points. It’s also a reminder of the challenges involved in developing self-driving cars and the limitations that still exist in the technology. Tesla Full Self Driving Challenges One of the main issues with autonomous driving is that it requires a massive amount of data to be processed in real-time. This includes information about the road, other vehicles, pedestrians, and the environment. To achieve this, autonomous vehicles rely on a variety of sensors and cameras that feed data to the car’s computer system, which then uses machine learning algorithms to interpret the information and make decisions about how to operate the vehicle. However, this process is not foolproof, and there are still many situations where the technology can fail. For example, if the camera is not properly calibrated or if there is too much glare or reflection on the road, the system may misinterpret its surroundings and potentially cause an accident. The Tesla Autopilot recall is an acknowledgment of these limitations and an attempt to mitigate the risk of accidents caused by the system’s malfunctioning. However, it also highlights the fact that self-driving technology is still in its infancy and has a long way to go before it can be relied on completely. Tesla Auto Pilot Criticism In addition to the recall, Tesla has also faced criticism from safety experts who argue that the company has been too aggressive in marketing the Autopilot system as a fully autonomous driving experience. While Tesla has been clear that the system requires driver attention and intervention, some drivers have misunderstood the limitations of the system and have become over-reliant on it. This has led to several high-profile accidents involving Tesla vehicles and has raised questions about the safety of autonomous driving more broadly. In response, Tesla has been working to improve its safety messaging and has implemented additional safety features in its vehicles, such as driver monitoring systems. Despite these efforts, there is still a long way to go before fully autonomous driving becomes a reality. In the meantime, companies like Tesla will need to continue developing and refining their autonomous driving technology to minimize the risk of accidents and ensure that drivers understand the limitations of the systems they are using. Autonomous Driving is Still in it’s Infancy The Tesla Autopilot recall is a reminder that autonomous driving technology is still in its early stages, and there are many challenges that need to be overcome before it can be used safely and reliably on a widespread basis. However, with continued investment and innovation, it’s likely that we will see significant advancements in this area in the coming years. One of the most promising developments is the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to improve the accuracy and reliability of autonomous driving systems. By analyzing vast amounts of data and continually learning from experience, these algorithms can adapt to changing road conditions and make more accurate predictions about what’s happening around the vehicle. Improved Hardware for Autonomous Driving Another area of focus is the development of new sensors and cameras that can better detect and interpret the environment around the vehicle. For example, lidar technology uses laser beams to create a 3D map of the surroundings, which can provide more accurate data than traditional cameras. However, these advancements will take time to implement and will require significant investment from companies like Tesla. In the meantime, it’s essential that manufacturers continue to prioritize safety and educate drivers about the limitations of autonomous driving systems. Additional Regulations for Autonomous Driving? One potential solution to this issue is to implement a graduated licensing system for autonomous driving. This could require drivers to undergo additional training and demonstrate their ability to safely operate a vehicle with autonomous driving features before being allowed to use them on public roads. Another approach could be to introduce regulations that require autonomous driving systems to meet certain safety standards before they can be used on public roads. This could help ensure that the technology is tested and proven to be safe before it’s widely adopted. Conclusion: Tesla Autopilot Autonomous Driving Ultimately, the Tesla Autopilot recall highlights the need for continued investment in autonomous driving technology and the importance of prioritizing safety. While there is still a long way to go before fully autonomous driving becomes a reality, the potential benefits of this technology are significant. From reduced traffic congestion and improved efficiency to increased safety and reduced emissions, there are many reasons to be optimistic about the future of autonomous driving. However, it’s important to remember that this technology is still in its early stages and that there are many challenges that need to be overcome before it can be used safely and reliably on a widespread basis.
